A Hiding Place

Part of my scripture reading today was Psalm 32:7 which says, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

I got to thinking about all the ways this verse is true.  Here’s a few thoughts on how He is our hiding place:

  •     * Accusations of our conscience

Satan brings to mind accusations of our past sins. Sometimes it seems we can’t get away from them.

Thanks be to God, Jesus has taken care of this! If we know Jesus as Lord and Savior, Satan’s lies dissolve to nothingness, in light of Christ’s perfect payment. We stand in His righteousness alone—we’re no longer judged because of our past sins!

“Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren [Satan] has been thrown down. . .” (Revelation 12:10)

  •     * Power of sin within ourselves

This speaks of present and future sin. We cannot eliminate this ourselves, because we are weak and will continue to sin until the day we die. We easily fall into the ruts of those same, well-worn sins we’ve committed so many times before.

If we are in Christ and are truly His, He has the power to break sin’s chains. He is Almighty God! His power is made available to us through prayer and the Holy Spirit!

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. . . Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.” (Romans 6:6, 13)

  • * Power of the devil

Satan knows us intimately by watching us, day and night. He tempts us with those things he knows that are particularly hard for us to deny. He wants our defeat, discouragement, and denial of our Heavenly Father’s plan.

But the devil has been defeated. If we understand the enemy’s wiles, we can hold to scripture’s promises and refuse to give ground, through the strength of the Holy Spirit!

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (I Peter 5:8)

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

  • *Wrath to come

It’s a fact: Every human born (except Jesus Christ) has sinned. We are all deserving of God’s awful wrath upon this sin.

But those who’ve given their lives to Jesus Christ need not worry! Because of Jesus and His great work extended toward us, we will not suffer God’s wrath during the apocalyptic end of the world.

We need not worry about this event. God will save us out of,or through the midst of it. We need only trust God for His provision!

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”(I Thessalonians 5:9)

The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great—” (Revelation 11:18)

Take comfort, Christian in these thoughts today. . . God is your hiding place. Find solace and safety there, in Him alone. . . .

He is your Hiding Place!
